Johnny Ryan's Getsie Betsie is gleefully, unapologetically gross — and that's exactly the point. The cover delivers the full package: a gap-toothed, pig-nosed title character with enormous yellow hair beaming at the viewer, surrounded by swarms of flies and insects, while a retching black-and-white cat loses its lunch at her feet and a second bug-eyed character peers in from the corner. Ryan's bold, anarchic linework makes every repulsive detail irresistible, and this 2006 XTRA release is a fine showcase of his talent for finding genuine charm in maximum filth.
