In "La citadelle au bout du chemin," the Gen X team splits across a strange, shifting dimension as Jubilee and Chamber follow Elwood’s guidance in search of Synch, while Banshee, Husk, and Penance ride a mysterious train led by the mutant rat Dirt Nap. Meanwhile, Emma and Skin navigate a surreal realm where they encounter the Token and a tea party hosted by a mystical creature with Artie, Leech, and the missing local girl. Written by Larry Hama and Nicole Duclos, with art by Andy Smith and inks by Sean Parsons, this 1999 issue features a surreal, puzzle-like journey through a dimension where the rules of reality bend — all leading toward the Citadel of the Universal Amalgamator. The cover by Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson captures the dreamlike tension of the journey.
