DC's Vertigo anthology Gangland reaches its third issue with a deeply unsettling cover by Glenn Fabry: a grinning child in a red scout-style uniform clutches a gas can while bound and gagged figures suffer in the background, all set against a deceptively sunny woodland scene. The badges-and-neckerchief trappings of innocence collide hard with the menace radiating from every figure, making this one of the more quietly disturbing images in the series. Inside, Darko Macan and Kilian Plunkett deliver "Gang Buff," part of Vertigo's tradition of sharp, mature crime storytelling from 1998.
