Gambit #4

History

The issue was written by Fabian Nicieza with pencils by Steve Skroce, the creative team responsible for the entire first run of Gambit Vol. 3, which launched in December 1998 and ran for 25 issues plus two annuals. The series was the first ongoing solo title for the character after two prior limited series, and emerged from a deliberate X-office strategy of shifting focus toward solo-star books rather than continuing to expand the already-crowded team titles. Editor Mark Powers oversaw the book under editor-in-chief Bob Harras, and the series developed a densely layered, multi-threat structure — simultaneously juggling the New Son mystery, the X-Cutioner's vendetta, Fontanelle's dream-surveillance, and the New Orleans Guild politics — which made each issue a chapter in a genuinely long-form serial.
