In "Night Attack!" from G.I. Joe Comics Magazine #6 (1987), the Joes scramble to defend Washington, D.C. during a surprise Cobra assault, as Venom attempts to sabotage the Federal Reserve by poisoning the money with his toxin—only to be thwarted by an unexpected move from the Commander. Amid the chaos, the Baroness crashes her H.I.S.S. tank during a desperate maneuver, leaving her gravely injured, while Bludd prepares to assassinate Destro under the Commander’s orders, and Hawk is shot as Cobra slips away into the night.

In "Loose Ends," the Joes pursue Cobra after Hawk is shot, while Destro grapples with the aftermath of the Baroness's injuries—still alive but scarred. With Kwinn and Snake-Eyes on the run from jail, Major Bludd captured and brought to the same hospital as Hawk and the Baroness, tensions rise as Snake-Eyes, Kwinn, Scar-Face, and Destro converge on a final confrontation in Coney Island.
