The stories collectively showcase various combat scenarios and soldier experiences during World War II.
When Lieutenant Yale's dogface squad lands on a Pescadores Island to install a radar station, a surprise commando raid by Chinese Reds forces them into an impromptu battle on unfamiliar ground. After turning the tables on Major Ho Li's forces with a tactical maneuver, Yale must escort the captured prisoners to a transport ship—but the Major's cryptic warnings suggest the fight may be far from over. This Korean War-era tale shows how soldiers trained for land combat must adapt when the enemy strikes where they least expect it.
A supply convoy carrying vital mortar ammunition gets separated in Korean fog, and Corporal Dave Stein and P.F.C. Lars Larson find themselves lost in enemy territory with a truck full of high explosives and a Red patrol closing in. When escape seems impossible, the two soldiers come up with a desperate plan to turn their cargo into a weapon and slip away—but first they have to survive long enough to see it through.
Captain Bill Jason's small company lands on the island of Ima Ko in the Pescadores as part of a 1956 military exercise—but when assault boats approach the beach ahead of schedule, they discover the "mock attack" is shockingly real, and the invaders are actual Chinese Communist forces. Cut off from all radio contact and running low on ammunition, Jason must use cunning and strategy to hold the island against overwhelming odds and uncover why the enemy has chosen this moment to strike.
