G.I. Combat #209

For a dollar in 1978, DC packed G.I. Combat #209 with seven war stories, and the cover — penciled and inked by Joe Kubert — makes every cent feel earned. The infamous Haunted Tank rolls front and center, its crew caught in a tense standoff: their orders are not to fight back, but the enemy is closing in, and the gold-plating on the hull threatens to give them away. Flanking the main image are three smaller preview panels teasing "Damsel on D-Day," "Mission of Mercy," and "Ghost Patrol," while the banner promises additional tales including "Slaughter on Sunday," "Armchair Warrior," and "Ring of Blood" — a genuinely generous package of frontline action from Robert Kanigher and Sam Glanzman.
