From Wayne Osborne and John Byrne, this third issue of IDW's FX puts its young hero in a genuinely precarious spot — the cover shows him crouched and wide-eyed on a football field, caught between the towering legs of an enormous figure looming overhead, with a downed player in orange (#21) nearby and a packed stadium crowd reacting in the background. The bold "SMASHED!" tagline and that worm's-eye perspective make the scale of the threat immediately felt. Byrne's energetic linework gives the whole scene a kinetic, larger-than-life quality that fits the superhero-meets-everyday-world charm this series delivers.
