“The Dodo Boys in Darkest Africa”

A delightful slice of postwar funny-animal comics from DC, this 1950 issue of Funny Stuff features the Dodo and the Frog in a perfectly timed gag right on the cover: a soaking-wet Frog clutches a hose nozzle while the little Dodo — scissors in hand — has just snipped the hose, sending water spraying everywhere, all while protesting "I distinctly heard you say: 'Cut the water off!'" Otto Feuer's bright, expressive linework against that sunny yellow background captures the cheerful slapstick energy the series was known for. At 52 big pages for just a dime, this was genuinely generous entertainment for young readers in 1950.
