“The Destiny Trail (Conclusion)”

In "The Destiny Trail (Conclusion)," the Freex face their final trial as they confront the Night Patrol and uncover a shocking truth: Contrary is behind it all, using the Night Patrol to lure the Freex into joining her academy. With Ray, the Old Man, and their allies, they plunge into the mysterious tunnels beneath the city, where an ancient door hides a terrifying secret—the lumbering, ancient Savior of the Fire People. The fate of the city hangs in the balance as Ray chooses to stand guard, determined to keep the beast sealed away. Written by Gerard Jones and illustrated by Scott Kolins, with inks by Jon Holdredge and vibrant colors by Rob Alvord, Violent Hues, and Emily Yoder, the cover by Kolins and Holdredge captures the moment of revelation in stark, dramatic detail.

As the Freex take out the Night Patrol, Contrary, Boom Boy, and Waver arrive. Ray reveals that Contrary is funding the Night Patrol in an attempt to get the Freex to join her academy. Then the Freex, Ray and the Old Man journey into the tunnels to investigate the loud booms coming from them. They locate an ancient door and open it. The source of the booms is the Savior of the Fire People, a lumbering giant elephant-man. They manage to close the door before the Savior can escape and Ray decides to stay by the door and stop the Savior if necessary, due to his great strength.
