# The Monster and the Stairway A man and woman, Paul and Marie, flee France for Africa to escape the monster's deadly rampage, hoping the nightmare has finally ended. However, the monster resurfaces in the African jungle, where it encounters Marie and transforms her into a savage beast worshipped as the "Leopard Goddess" by native tribes. After subduing the transformed Marie through superhuman strength, Paul attempts to protect her, but the monster's continued presence threatens their newfound refuge. The story culminates aboard a ship where sailors battle the monster below decks, with the outcome left ambiguous as the creature vanishes and robbery is discovered aboard the vessel.
