Frank #1
This collection presents the complete run of Jim Woodring's wordless, surreal comic series Frank, originally published by Fantagraphics before being collected by L'Association. The stories follow the bizarre, dreamlike adventures of the titular anthropomorphic animal in a vividly rendered, silent world of strange creatures and abstract events. Known for its intricate, hallucinatory art and lack of dialogue, the volume is a cornerstone of alternative and art comics, showcasing Woodring's unique storytelling through pure visual narrative.
In "Frank dans le jardin des subterfuges," Jim Woodring’s surreal world unfolds as Frank tends to his garden, only to dream of being crushed by a tree. After a strange picnic, he receives an invitation to a party for the dead at the House of Mystery, where he vanishes into the uncanny before returning to find his kitchen in disarray. The story, written and illustrated by Jim Woodring with inks by the same, is a dreamlike exploration of quiet unease, all rendered in the distinctive, hand-drawn style that defines his work.
