From 1942, this Dell Four Color entry puts Popeye right in the thick of it — the cover shows our squinty sailor squaring off between a scowling, red-shirted bruiser on one side and a rotund, bowler-hatted fellow clutching a can on the other, with fists flying in all directions. E. C. Segar handles the writing, art, and inking throughout, bringing his signature energy to every panel across a generous 68 full-color pages. At a dime a copy, this was a terrific value for fans who loved watching Popeye hold his own against impossible odds.
