Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained #1

Dark Horse launched this four-issue miniseries from writer Peter M. Lenkov and artist Frazer Irving in 2002, and Irving's cover alone makes a compelling case for diving in. A determined man in a period suit thrusts a glowing lantern forward while leveling a revolver, his grimacing face lit dramatically from below — all while monstrous red-clawed creatures lunge at him from the shadows. It's a beautifully moody opening image for a series promising the strange and the unexplained.
