“The Stray!”

In "The Stray!", Gwendolyn Purdy—dismissed by her students and principal—finds her life upended when her tektite collection begins to glow, summoning two aliens from Uranus. Their leader, Kryptos, believes Earth women are unattractive but insists on taking Gwendolyn to his planet, prompting her to reconsider her image. Written by Richard Hughes and illustrated by Ogden Whitney, this 1959 adventure blends quiet suburban tension with cosmic whimsy, all captured in Whitney’s distinctive cover art.
