This anthology issue contains two stories: "Professor Benton's Betters," in which a vain professor named Alonzo Benton discovers an ancient oriental mirror that he believes gives a bright reflection, but the mirror becomes increasingly menacing and drains his strength, eventually trapping him with a sinister voice commanding him to stay away. "In the Beginning" follows a tribal shaman who journeys to a forbidden valley to commune with ancestral spirits seeking a new weapon to help his people fight the bear people, and receives a vision of a bow—made from a tree branch and sinew with feathered spear stick—as the solution to their conflict.
