☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains multiple stories of strange adventure. One story features an underwater civilization of Rhodryians who can breathe in water thanks to a special hydrogen concentration, and after being discovered by surface dwellers, they must decide whether to remain hidden or make contact with humanity. Another story involves a man experiencing severe exhaustion and neurosis who is examined by a sheriff and medical authority, only to be discovered dressed as a pirate, suggesting possible psychological delusion or obsession.
A sober schoolteacher named Nat Cullen and his wife Doris settle into his family's abandoned mansion atop a Maine peak for the summer, but strange behavior soon overtakes him—old-fashioned speech, vivid dreams of piracy, and unsettling sleepwalking episodes that lead him to a specific spot where the locals are building a new road. As Nat's personality shifts and his grip on reality seems to slip, Doris grows increasingly alarmed, wondering what force the decaying old house and Nat's mysterious seafaring ancestor may have awakened.
A mysterious sphere crashes into a Nebraska haystack in 1953, too heavy for anyone to move—until Professor Johnson examines it with a nuclear microscope and discovers it's an entire world unto itself, complete with cities, inhabitants, and advanced technology. When the tiny civilization repairs their damaged vessel, the sphere suddenly escapes back into space, leaving the professor with an extraordinary secret no one will believe.
