“Jilted Pride!”

In "Jilted Pride!", wealthy and flirtatious Babs faces a devastating turn when an automobile accident leaves her horribly scarred. As she struggles with self-doubt, she finds unexpected kindness in Bill Reiner, the lawyer handling her case—only to fear he sees her as a burden, not a woman worth loving. Tom Hickey’s expressive art brings raw emotion to this poignant tale of healing and self-worth, while Al Avison’s cover captures the story’s heart-wrenching tension. A 10-cent comic from 1955, this issue stands as a quiet yet powerful moment in the First Love Illustrated series.

Wealthy, flirtatious Babs is hideously scarred in an automobile accident. She falls in love with Bill Reiner, the lawyer handling her case, but believes he sees her only as a horribly scarred woman no one could possibly love. He corrects her and the two pledge their love. Babs eventually has plastic surgery to restore her face but the scars in her heart will always be there to remind her of her crippling self-pity.
