Sandy sets out to make each boy fall in love with her, then dumps him and moves on to her next conquest. On the night of the spring prom, she steals Chet from his date Carrie. They go out for a while, but eventually Sandy loses interest. However, when Chet and Carrie are reunited, Sandy realises she actually loves Chet. It’s too late: Chet says “I despise you and all you stand for!” He and Carrie get married and Sandy is left alone—still the “most popular girl around” but without true love.
