“Book Two: All-Nighters”

The second chapter of Vertigo's campus dark comedy Finals arrives with a wonderfully strange cover by Jill Thompson: a figure identified as "President Woolrich" reclines in bed wearing a sleep mask and a pointed cap, clutching a sinister-looking black-and-white cat, while a KSU pennant hangs overhead and paperwork waits on the bedside tray. Writer Will Pfeifer's "Book Two: All-Nighters" promises the series continues to find the unsettling humor lurking inside collegiate life. Thompson's painterly, watercolor-style rendering gives the whole scene a cozy-yet-creepy warmth that suits Vertigo's mature sensibility perfectly.
