The lead story, "The Last Test!", depicts a naval crisis when two submarines collide while racing to test a new torpedo, and Admiral Salsworth must prevent reports of the incident from reaching superior officers to save his career. As a massive sea creature seizes one of the damaged vessels, the crew fights for survival, and a flagship is ordered to fire depth charges set to detonate in three seconds to destroy the monster—leaving the trapped submarine's fate uncertain.
