"The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy follows the masked hero as he works to rescue aristocrats during the French Revolution. When Marguerite discovers a note revealing the Pimpernel's identity and plans to meet Armand St. Just at Devil's Moorings at midnight, she becomes torn between loyalty to her brother and preventing the mysterious hero's capture. Chauvelin intercepts the note and races to ambush the Pimpernel, while Marguerite attempts to warn him by reaching the rendezvous point first. The story culminates with the old peddler revealing himself as the Scarlet Pimpernel and rewarding those who aided in the rescue.
