The cover of this Vertigo series' fifth issue — subtitled "The End of the Beginning" — features a tough, armored young woman crouched defiantly with a rifle, set against a grimy brick wall plastered with red "Wanted: For Crimes Against Heaven" posters bearing eerie, unsettling faces. Ted McKeever's raw, expressive linework gives the whole image a gritty, urban-apocalyptic feel that perfectly suits the series' mature, boundary-pushing tone. If you've been following Faith through 2000, this closing chapter of its opening arc looks like exactly the kind of dark, spiritually charged payoff the series has been building toward.
