Ex Machina #33
This WildStorm issue delivers one of the most visually arresting covers of 2008, with Tony Harris rendering a haunted, close-up portrait of Mayor Mitchell Hundred — his piercing green eyes carrying the full weight of his divided existence. Flanking him in Art Nouveau-inflected detail are demonic red figures on the left and luminous winged angels on the right, the heaven-and-hell tension beautifully framing a man perpetually caught between two worlds. Brian K. Vaughan's "Ex Cathedra Conclusion" promises a meaningful payoff to whatever moral and supernatural pressures have been building in this arc.
