Evolution #9 from Image Comics delivers the series' unsettling blend of body-horror and dread in a single, deeply affecting image — a figure's face contorted in anguish as vivid, flower-like organic growths burst from the side of their head, a single tear trailing down their cheek. The tension between something almost beautiful and something deeply wrong is what makes this cover linger. Asmus, Boyd, Infurnari, Keatinge, and Sebela keep pushing their 2018 series into genuinely uncomfortable territory, and this issue looks no different.
