Volume 14 of Kim Duchateau's beloved Belgian series finds Esther in characteristically wild form — here she's riding a bandaged, arrow-stuck pink unicorn along a narrow ledge above roaring flames, arms flung wide and cowboy hat tilted back in delirious triumph. A mysterious silhouetted figure looms behind her, adding just a hint of menace to what is otherwise a gloriously absurd rodeo in hell. If the subtitle Heelhuids in de hel ("Out of Hell in One Piece") is any indication, this 2017 outing promises the same irreverent humor and chaotic charm that has kept Esther Verkest a fan favorite.
