Emma Frost #7
In "Mind Games, 1 of 6," Emma Frost faces her first real test of independence when she struggles to survive on her own, landing job after job only to fail. Desperate, she experiments with her telepathic abilities in a bold, risky attempt to trick people into seeing money—leading to an unexpected turn when she’s caught and forced to wash dishes. There, she bonds with Troy, a fellow dishwasher, whose easygoing nature masks a dangerous secret: two thugs are coming for ten grand he owes. With writer Karl Bollers and artist Carlo Pagulayan bringing Emma’s vulnerability and cunning to life, and Greg Horn’s cover capturing her tense, calculating presence, this issue sets a sharp, grounded tone for a story where every move could be her last.

On her own for the first time in her life, Emma finds that paying her own way is difficult as she loses one job after another. She discovers that she can use her mind to make people see money and tries to pass a piece of newspaper off as a hundred dollar bill at a restaurant. She gets caught and ends up doing dishes, making an unlikely friend out of the regular dishwasher. Troy invites her to crash at his place and the two get on swimmingly until two goons show up looking for the ten grand Troy owes to their boss.
