Elektra: Assassin #8

The finale of Marvel's eight-issue Epic Comics limited series arrives with a cover that says everything through restraint — Elektra's face turned downward, her red headband dominating the composition, black hair swept across her features against a smoldering amber sky. Bill Sienkiewicz's painted cover work here feels less like a comic book image and more like a fever dream rendered in watercolor and ink, intimate and unsettling in equal measure. "Hail to the Chief" promises a conclusion worthy of Frank Miller and Sienkiewicz's ambitious collaboration on one of 1987's most visually daring series.
