Eclipso #65
"Le sinistre Kou Namfu" in Eclipso #65 (1979) delivers a sharp, suspenseful chapter in the ongoing clash between legacy and rebellion. Written by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin, with art by Jim Starlin and inks by Al Milgrom, the story follows Shang-Chi as he grapples with the truth about his father, Fu Manchu, after being sent to England on a deadly mission. The cover by Gil Kane and Tom Palmer captures the tension of a hero caught between duty and discovery.
In "Le sinistre Kou Namfu," Shang-Chi, the prodigious martial artist and son of the enigmatic Fu Manchu, is sent to England on a mission to eliminate the dangerous Dr. Petrie—ordered by his father for the "common good." But when he meets Sir Denis Nayland Smith, a former British intelligence officer, Shang-Chi learns the chilling truth: Fu Manchu is no mere scientist, but a nearly immortal villain whose schemes stretch far beyond the surface. Now torn between loyalty and justice, Shang-Chi returns to his father’s hidden New York lair to confront the man who raised him—and to decide where his allegiance truly lies.
In New York, Shang-Chi is confronted by M'nai, his childhood friend turned assassin known as Midnight, now serving Fu Manchu. Bound by their past, Shang-Chi hesitates, but when the fight escalates, he must finally defend himself—leading to a moment that changes everything.
In "La villa du meurtre," Shang-Chi finds himself trapped in a deadly mansion, forced to fight Black Jack Tarr on orders from Sir Denis Nayland Smith. As the traps close in and the stakes rise, Shang-Chi must confront not only his assassin but the truth behind the mission—and the man who set it all in motion.
In "L'attaque," Shang-Chi teams up with Sir Denis Nayland Smith to stop Fu Manchu’s sinister plan: smuggling gasoline laced with mimosa into Florida, designed to subdue the population and pave the way for a takeover. Trapped and forced to battle the doped-up dacoit Satma, Shang-Chi must use every ounce of skill to survive and strike back.
In "La retraite," Shang-Chi, wounded and pursued through the Florida swamps by Fu Manchu’s assassins Jekin and Dahar, finds unexpected refuge with the enigmatic Lu Sun. As the assassins meet their end in a clash with the mysterious Man-Thing, Shang-Chi’s path toward survival grows more perilous—while Sir Denis and Black Jack Tarr’s efforts to capture Fu Manchu falter.
In "L'immortalité," a ruthless businessman seizes a revolutionary device from a wary scientist, eager to extend his life to a thousand years like a redwood. When he activates the ray in his mansion, he discovers too late that immortality comes at a terrible cost—his body freezes, trapped in place as unyielding as the ancient tree he sought to emulate.
