To divert attention from himself, Brian claims to have seen another man near the schoolyard where the girl disappeared. Detective Neville takes Brian to identify a possible suspect. Brian doesn't want to pin the murder on an innocent man, so he doesn't give a positive ID. Increasingly, Brian starts to believe that he murdered the girl himself.
