E Is for Extinction #1
Part of Marvel's 2015 Secret Wars event, this opening issue announces itself with a striking cover by Ian Bertram — a diverse ensemble of mutants, including a winged figure in a yellow-and-black jacket, a white-haired man in an X-Men uniform, a glowing pink figure, and several others, advancing with quiet, unsettling purpose. Writer Chris Burnham, artist Ramon Villalobos, and colorist Ian Herring bring a distinctly offbeat energy to this reimagining of Grant Morrison's beloved X-Men era. If the title "Relax and be Replaced" is any indication, this is a series with something genuinely provocative on its mind.
