About this Issue

Dune: House Corrino #2 is the second chapter of the first and only comic-book adaptation of the 2001 novel Dune: House Corrino — itself the concluding volume of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's 'Prelude to Dune' trilogy, a series drawing directly from notes left by Frank Herbert after his death. As the closing arc of BOOM! Studios' multi-year project to render the entire prequel trilogy in sequential art form, the issue occupies a historically significant position: it is part of the only visual medium to dramatize the final pre-Dune machinations of Emperor Shaddam IV, the Bene Gesserit's breeding scheme around Jessica's pregnancy, and the Fremen's escalating resistance — all events that set the stage for Herbert's foundational 1965 novel. The issue deepens the comic medium's treatment of the Dune universe at the precise cultural moment when Denis Villeneuve's theatrical adaptations had brought the franchise to a new peak of mainstream visibility, cementing its place as the capstone of an unprecedented, author-driven comic trilogy.

History

BOOM! Studios announced the Dune: House Corrino comic series in December 2023 as the conclusion of its 'Prelude to Dune' comic adaptation project, which had begun with a 12-issue House Atreides series in October 2020 and continued with a 12-issue House Harkonnen series launching in January 2023. For House Corrino, the original novelists Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson personally scripted the comic adaptation alongside artist Simone Ragazzoni, colorist Dan Jackson, and letterer Ed Dukeshire — the same core creative approach used for the prior two series. The eight-issue run was deliberately timed to coincide with the March 2024 theatrical release of Dune: Part Two, with BOOM! senior editor Shantel LaRocque describing the series as an exploration of 'the mechanizations of the Imperial family' in the final days leading up to the events of the original Dune novel. Issue #2 went on sale April 24, 2024, and the series was subsequently collected in trade paperback volumes beginning in late 2024.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, illustrated by Simone Ragazzoni, colored by Dan Jackson, and lettered by Ed Dukeshire — the same creative team as the rest of the series.
  • Released April 24, 2024 by BOOM! Studios as the second of eight issues in the Dune: House Corrino limited series.
  • The series is adapted from the 2001 novel Dune: House Corrino, the third and final entry in Herbert and Anderson's 'Prelude to Dune' (or 'House Trilogy') of prequel novels, following Dune: House Atreides (1999) and Dune: House Harkonnen (2000); the source novel drew from Frank Herbert's own posthumous notes.
  • Issue #2 centers on Tyros Reffa — the illegitimate son of Emperor Elrood IX and Lady Shando Vernius, and secret half-brother of Shaddam IV — as Emperor Shaddam IV attempts to eliminate him, a storyline originating in the 2001 novel.
  • The issue also advances multiple interlocking subplots: Jessica of House Atreides comes to the attention of a Bene Gesserit Sister; Prince Rhombur Vernius's wedding takes place on Castle Caladan; and the Tleilaxu research into synthetic spice (amal) on Ix is depicted.
  • Cover art for issue #2 is by Raymond Swanland (main), with variant covers by Veronica Fish, Miguel Mercado, and Aaron Campbell; a 1-for-10 retailer incentive variant also existed.
  • Dune: House Corrino #2 was later collected in the Dune: House Corrino Vol. 1 softcover trade paperback (collecting issues #1–3), released in late 2024.
  • The comic series launched concurrently with Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two (March 2024), representing the culmination of BOOM! Studios' years-long effort to adapt the complete 'Prelude to Dune' trilogy in sequential art for the first time.
