History

The series was announced by Dynamite Entertainment on July 23, 2024, at San Diego Comic-Con as part of the publisher's 20th-anniversary lineup, expanding its existing Disney partnership — which had already yielded Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles titles — into Duckburg for the first time. Writer Brandon Montclare, known for Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and the creator-owned Rocket Girl, publicly described the project as a decades-delayed personal dream rooted in watching the original cartoon as a child. Italian artist Tommaso Ronda, whose background included children's illustration work on Geronimo Stilton and collaboration with Arancia Studio, described DuckTales #1 as his debut American comic book project. The creative team was completed by letterer Fabio Amelia and editor Nate Cosby.
