Drie dagen in Rio #[nn]
Peter van Dongen's Drie dagen in Rio opens with a sun-drenched cover that immediately transports you to the harbour of Rio de Janeiro — Sugar Loaf Mountain and the surrounding peaks rising dramatically in the background as a ship's deck frames the foreground. A young man stands in the near left, while two women converse behind him, the bay dotted with sailboats and vessels beneath a warm golden sky with a lone bird soaring overhead. Published in 2013 by Oog & Blik and De Bezige Bij, this beautifully composed album — entirely the work of van Dongen, with colours by Paula Knotter and lettering by Frits Jonker — promises a story steeped in atmosphere and mid-century elegance.
