Peter van Dongen, born 21 October 1966 in Amsterdam, is a Dutch cartoonist best known for his vivid, historically grounded graphic novels and his work on the long-running *Blake et Mortimer* series. His path into comics began in the late 1980s, and he quickly established a reputation for meticulous research and a clean, expressive line. Van Dongen’s signature work is *Rampokan*, a two-part story set in the final years of Dutch colonial rule in Indonesia, which he both wrote and drew. The series showcases his ability to weave political and personal drama into a visually rich historical narrative. He has also contributed as an artist, colorist, and inker on multiple volumes of *Blake et Mortimer*, collaborating with writers like Jean Van Hamme and Yves Sente. His other notable work includes *Drie dagen in Rio*. In 2018, van Dongen received the Stripschapprijs, the Netherlands’ most prestigious comics award, honoring his entire body of work. His legacy lies in bringing a nuanced, human perspective to colonial history and in his disciplined, atmospheric storytelling within both his own creations and the classic adventure series he helped sustain.
