“Showing Off”

Dotty Dripple Comics #8 brings Harvey's self-proclaimed "America's Laugh-A-Second Family" to life in a wonderfully silly cover scene by Buford Tune: a young girl named Pepper stands between a scolding mother and a flustered, wide-eyed man, all attention fixed on an adorable spotted dalmatian puppy perched on a tin can — with the punchline spelled out in a speech bubble reading "Pepper, put down that ear!!" Based on Buford Tune's newspaper comic strip, this 1949 issue also features Li'l Taffy, with the lead story "Showing Off" promising the kind of lighthearted domestic comedy that made this series such a charming read for the dime.
