Doom Patrol #2
Part of DC's Young Animal imprint, Doom Patrol #2 (December 2016) continues Gerard Way and Nick Derington's deeply strange reinvention of one of DC's most wonderfully weird teams. Derington's cover presents a striking dual image: a glowing-headed figure in a denim jacket kneels upright against a starry sky, flames and roiling pink smoke billowing behind them, while their dark, tangled reflection pools below — a helmeted head and trailing wires mirroring the scene from beneath the water's surface. Tamra Bonvillain's colors give the whole composition an eerie, otherworldly pull that makes this imprint's "Mature Readers" label feel entirely earned.
