Doctor Strange of Asgard #5

History

The series was conceived during the editorial build-up to the One World Under Doom 2025 event, with editor Alanna Smith directing writer Derek Landy — an Irish author best known outside comics for the Skulduggery Pleasant YA novels — to relocate Strange to Asgard as the conceptual spine of the book. Landy has noted that Smith's instruction to 'move him to Asgard' was what made the project feel viable rather than daunting, and artist Carlos Magno described a deliberate creative choice to depict Asgard's unglamorous street-level side — shadowy alleys, working-class citizens, and a noir-inflected murder mystery — rather than the gleaming palace iconography typically associated with Thor's realm. The full five-issue run was subsequently collected in a trade paperback and all issues were made available on Marvel Unlimited, with the series' legacy numbering counting #5 as Doctor Strange Vol. 1 #449.
