Doctor Strange #1
This volume opens Panini France's 2019 reprint series of Mark Waid and Jesús Saiz's 'Fresh Start' Doctor Strange run, giving French-language readers their first collected access to a run that fundamentally repositioned Stephen Strange as a cosmic explorer rather than a purely Earth-bound mystic. By sending the Sorcerer Supreme into space aboard a ship borrowed from Tony Stark, Waid broke the character out of the Sanctum Sanctorum formula that had defined most of his solo series, opening Strange to encounters with alien sorcerers, extraterrestrial artefacts, and the wider Infinity Stones mythology. The volume also ties Strange directly into the Infinity Wars event by staging his confrontation with Kl'rt the Super-Skrull over possession of the Time Stone — one of the few moments in the character's publishing history where his solo series fed into a major crossover through action, not just tie-in labelling. As the launch issue of the four-volume Panini France run, it served as the primary gateway for francophone readers into this era of the character.
In "Sorcier suprême de la galaxie (I)," Doctor Strange, severed from his mystical roots, turns to Tony Stark for guidance—and embarks on a cosmic quest for forgotten artifacts and alien magic. Trapped on the planet Grynda, where magic is unknown, he must survive in a world that has no place for the occult.
In *Doctor Strange #1 (2019)*, a stripped of his powers and enslaved by the technocratic Gryndiens, Strange escapes with the help of Kanna, an alien arcanologist who uncovered the mythical Œil de Basphore in a hidden cavern of forgotten relics. With the artifact in hand, he halts Grynda’s planetary invasion force—but his act awakens a shadowy, otherworldly auditor whose presence looms beyond the veil of reality.
In "Sorcier suprême de la galaxie (III)," as the interstellar arcanologist Kanna guides Doctor Strange through the cosmos in search of new magical knowledge, their journey takes a sudden turn when they attempt to meet the enigmatic Skrull sorcerer Mt'Nox—only to be interrupted by the shocking arrival of the Super-Skrull, who carries a mysterious Infinity Stone.
In "Sorcier suprême de la galaxie (IV)," Doctor Strange and his ally Kanna race against time to free Eoffren, a mystical arms forger, from the clutches of Majesdane Roxnor the Purifier, a relentless alien enforcer whose crusade threatens to unravel the balance of arcane power across the galaxy.
In "Sorcier suprême de la galaxie (V)," Doctor Strange teams up with the Nidavellir dwarf Eoffren to forge powerful magical artifacts, wielding them alongside the warrior Roxnor against the expanding threat of the Majesdane Empire. As Strange and Jo work to prevent a deadly missile from destroying Earth, they're left contemplating the arrival of another version of themselves—this one from a different reality—within the quiet stillness of their sanctuary.

The source material — Doctor Strange (Marvel, 2018 series) #1–5 — was produced by Mark Waid and Jesús Saiz as part of Marvel's 'Fresh Start' publishing initiative, which relaunched multiple ongoing series following the Secret Empire event. Saiz, best known in the US for Captain America: Steve Rogers, produced fully painted-style art that reviewers consistently singled out for its visual clarity and sense of cosmic scale. Panini France collected these five issues into a hardcover album (ISBN 9782809477900) released on 10 July 2019 under its '100% Marvel' imprint, with translation by Nicole Duclos; the French publication schedule coincided broadly with the theatrical momentum generated by Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of the character in the MCU.
