The volume reprints issues #1–6 of the series, offering a modern take on the Silver Age hero's origin and early adventures.
"Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom Archives #1" kicks off with a gripping mystery: when Solar’s experiments yield a mysterious crystalline element, his trip to New York to consult specialist Wolson ends in murder. After two thieves kill Wolson and the crystal consumes them—and Solar—his struggle to survive and control the strange energy begins. Written by Matt Murphy and Paul S. Newman, with art by Bob Fujitani, and featuring a striking cover by Richard Powers, this issue sets a tense, grounded tone that lingers long after the final page.

Solar's experiments create a new crystalline element. When he takes it to New York to consult with specialist Wolson, two thieves kill Wolson. The unknown crystal expends, engulfing Solar and the killers, until Solar finds a way to break it. The thieves insist that Solar has strange powers, but everyone considers their testimony a crude attempt at an insanity plea, and they are sentenced to death.
