DMZ #58
Part four of five in the "Collective Punishment" arc, this December 2010 Vertigo issue captures the raw tension of Brian Wood's war-torn Manhattan through a striking cover by John Paul Leon — a solitary figure stands before a graffiti-covered wall splashed with bold revolutionary colors, while military helicopters sweep across a fractured cityscape overhead. The contrast between that lone, still presence at street level and the overwhelming force filling the sky says everything about the DMZ's uneasy atmosphere. With interior art by Danijel Žeželj, this is mature, politically charged storytelling at one of its most compelling moments.
