Disney Masters #23
In "Mickey Mouse and the Famed Jumping Frog of Queen Zenobia [Chapter One]," Queen Zenobia—fresh from a prior adventure—arrives in Mouseton and quickly becomes the town’s most talked-about figure, drawing admiration from Mickey, Goofy, and Ellroy. Goofy, smitten but shy, tries to impress her by introducing her to a menagerie of jumping frogs, with one standout frog, Li’l Nero, soon entering a local competition. Meanwhile, Pete and Trudy scheme to gain favor, and Cousin Portis makes a dramatic move at Zenobia’s reception. Written by Romano Scarpa and Joe Torcivia, with art by Scarpa and inks by Sandro Del Conte, this chapter blends whimsy and quiet charm, all rendered in vivid colors by Mondadori and lettered by Paul Baresh and Christina Hwang. The cover, also by Scarpa, captures the story’s playful spirit.

Queen Zenobia (from a previous Scarpa story - see Notes) moves to Mouseton and becomes an instant celebrity, as do her rescuers Mickey, Goofy, and Ellroy. Goofy goes all sweet on Zenobia, but his innate shyness and awkward manner keeps him at a bashfully safe distance. As a diversion to keep Zenobia entertained, Goofy suggests that she raise jumping frogs and brings a bunch of them to her mansion. One, Li’l Nero, is a standout jumper, so Zenobia enters him in a competition. Pete and Trudy try to worm their way into Zenobia's circle, while Cousin Portis kidnaps the queen from her own reception.
