“The Phantom of Notre Duck”
About this Collection

This inaugural volume of the Disney Comics Album series collects a selection of classic Donald Duck and Gyro Gearloose stories, showcasing the inventive misadventures of the bumbling inventor and his often-frustrated cousin. The collection features appearances by Scrooge McDuck and the nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, highlighting the humor and charm of the Duck universe from the Carl Barks and later comic traditions.

In "The Phantom of Notre Duck," Scrooge McDuck brings his new vault key—a fife—to the Cathedral of Notre Duck, hoping to test its legendary power at the wishing fountain. But when the fife vanishes mid-ritual, a mysterious black-clad thief begins playing the tune through the cathedral’s echoing halls, leading Scrooge and the ducks on a frantic chase through its shadowed corridors. Written, drawn, and inked by Carl Barks with lettering by Garé Barks, this 1990 Disney Comics Album tale blends whimsy and mystery in a classic adventure that’s as clever as it is atmospheric.

Scrooge has a new vault, which opens only when he plays "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" on a fife. He takes the fife to the Cathedral of Notre Duck, to lower it on a string into the water of the Cathedral's wishing fountain—but when he pulls the string up, the fife is gone, and the thief is playing "My Bonnie." The ducks pursue the black-clad thief through the cathedral until they are all trapped.
