Demonic #2 from Image/Skybound pulls you in immediately with one of the more unsettling covers of 2016: a human face stretched open in a wide, agonized scream while dark, shadowy features loom over it from behind, the two visages locked together in a deeply disturbing merger. The dueling expressions — one tortured, one predatory — are bathed in sickly golds and deep purples by colorist Dan Brown, giving the whole image a nightmarish, fever-dream quality. Writer Christopher Sebela and artist Niko Walter are clearly not pulling any punches with this supernatural series.
