About this Issue

Deadpool/Wolverine #10 (released October 1, 2025) is the series finale of the ten-issue run that served as Marvel's flagship team-up book under the 'X-Men: From the Ashes' publishing initiative, making it the narrative capstone of a story that threaded together 1990s X-Men mythology — particularly the X-Cutioner's Song and Age of Apocalypse anniversaries — with post-Krakoa continuity. The issue resolves a serialized arc in which Apocalypse, having transferred his consciousness into Stryfe's body, used a nanite substance called Legacy 2.0 to transform a mind-controlled Wolverine into a hulking giant, forcing Deadpool, Maverick, and the mutant Legacy to attempt a last-ditch reversal. Functioning simultaneously as a stealth prequel to the 'Age of Revelation' crossover event, the conclusion of this series represents the full payoff of Benjamin Percy and Joshua Cassara's extended X-Men collaboration, which began on Krakoan-era X-Force, now applied to Marvel's two most commercially prominent mutant antiheroes. Its placement as both a self-contained thriller and a continuity bridge between From the Ashes and Age of Revelation gives it an unusual dual role in Marvel's 2025 publishing architecture.

History

The Deadpool/Wolverine series was conceived and developed well before the massive commercial success of the 2024 Marvel Studios film Deadpool & Wolverine, as Percy himself confirmed the comic was in development long before production on the film wrapped — though Marvel's timing to launch it on January 1, 2025, naturally positioned it to ride the wave of renewed fan interest in the pairing. Percy and Cassara were reunited specifically for this project, having previously collaborated on the Krakoan-era X-Force and the X Lives/X Deaths of Wolverine event, and Percy brought years of Logan-centric writing experience — including Wolverine solo runs and Marvel's acclaimed Wolverine audio drama series — to the table. Editor Mark Basso oversaw the series, with Guru-eFX providing colors throughout; Percy described the reunion with Cassara as creatively motivated first and foremost, independent of the film's orbit. The series was designed as a tight, complete ten-issue arc under the From the Ashes banner rather than an open-ended ongoing, which shaped its deliberately escalating, 1990s-pulp-inflected structure.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Issue #10 (titled 'Lost Legacy' per Nerd Initiative's review) is the series finale, published October 1, 2025 — the tenth and final chapter of the 2025 Deadpool/Wolverine ongoing series.
  • Written by Benjamin Percy with art and cover by Joshua Cassara, colored by Guru-eFX, and lettered by VC's Joe Sabino; editor Mark Basso.
  • The issue resolves the Apocalypse-in-Stryfe's-body arc: Apocalypse, who transferred his consciousness into the psychic-powered body of Stryfe after his own ancient form failed, used the nanite compound Legacy 2.0 to transform Wolverine into an enlarged, mind-controlled creature.
  • The climax pits Director Talyn of O*N*E (an anti-mutant antagonist seeking to co-opt Legacy 2.0 to pacify mutants in America) directly against Apocalypse, while Legacy, Maverick, and Deadpool work to reverse Logan's mutation and free him from Apocalypse's control.
  • The series was positioned by Percy as 'cousin to a legendary '90s X-Men storyline,' with internal evidence pointing to both X-Cutioner's Song and the Age of Apocalypse as its primary thematic predecessors.
  • The entire ten-issue run functions as a stealth prequel to Marvel's 'Age of Revelation' crossover event (October–December 2025), itself a 30th-anniversary homage to Age of Apocalypse — though TV Tropes notes a continuity tension between the two storylines.
  • The series is part of the X-Men: From the Ashes publishing initiative, launched after the end of the Krakoan era, repositioning Wolverine and Deadpool within a world that again 'hates and fears' mutants.
  • A collected trade paperback edition of all ten issues was subsequently made available, with all ten issues also accessible on Marvel Unlimited.
