About this Issue

Deadpool/Wolverine #1 marks the first time Marvel gave the two characters their own dedicated ongoing series together, rather than the limited series and mini-events that had previously defined their comics partnership. Launched as part of the X-Men: From the Ashes initiative in the direct wake of the blockbuster 2024 film, the issue uses Stryfe's dramatic last-page return to reactivate one of the X-Men's most storied 1990s villains and deliberately echoes the 1992 crossover epic X-Cutioner's Song. The first issue also introduces several new supporting characters within the reorganized post-Krakoa Marvel mutant landscape, anchoring an ongoing conversation between old-school X-lore and the freshly rebuilt status quo.

History

Writer Benjamin Percy and artist Joshua Cassara — already bonded by their extended run together on X-Force and X Lives of Wolverine — reunited for this series, with Percy describing the collaboration as a natural extension of their creative friendship. Marvel positioned the book to capitalize on the enormous cultural footprint of the 2024 Deadpool & Wolverine film, launching it on January 1, 2025, as the flagship title of the From the Ashes X-Men publishing line. Percy navigated a significant Marvel editorial transition during this period and continued producing the title alongside his concurrent Hellverine series, with editor Mark Basso shepherding the book. The series ran for ten issues, concluding October 1, 2025, and was subsequently collected as a trade paperback.
