Deadpool Annual #1

Jul 2011 · Marvel · 3.99 USD
“Identity Wars, Part 2”

In "Identity Wars, Part 2," Deadpool finds himself in a wild alternate reality where he's the best friend of a doppelgänger called Death Wish—until the arrival of a menacing figure who looks suspiciously like Dr. Doom turns the fun sour. With the truth unraveling fast—Death Wish isn't who he claims to be, and the real Wade Wilson is someone else entirely—Deadpool goes on a bloody rampage through Death Mask’s empire, taking down his henchmen and setting his sights on the man behind the throne. Written by John Layman and illustrated by Juan Doe, with vibrant colors by Fabio D'Auria and sharp lettering by Clayton Cowles, this 2011 annual is a chaotic, self-aware thrill ride. The cover, by Steve McNiven and Mark Morales, captures the absurd intensity of the moment.

Deadpool is in an alternate reality having the time of his life hanging out with his new BFF and dimensional doppelganger, Death Wish. That is, until Death Wish's boss (who looks an awful lot like Dr. Doom) shows up and fries his lackey for goofing off. To make matters worse, it turns out that Death Wish isn't Wade Wilson, Death Mask is. In retaliation, Deadpool starts knocking off all of Death Mask's goons and then makes a play for the big boss himself. Deadpool takes out Death Mask and, since he happens to be Wade Wilson too, replaces him as the kingpin of crime.
