Deadpool #4

Nic Klein's cover for this 2018 installment frames Wade Wilson in a genuinely tender — if wonderfully absurd — romantic embrace with a green-gowned woman, the two silhouetted against a glowing heart-shaped void while cherubs flutter nearby with bows at the ready. Surrounding that oddly sweet centerpiece, however, is a menagerie of bulging eyeballs, enormous ants, and looming monstrous faces that remind you this is still very much a Deadpool comic. It's a striking blend of schmaltz and the grotesque that captures the series' tonal tightrope perfectly.
