History

The series was announced at New York Comic Con 2023, alongside Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X, as part of Marvel's planned conclusion to the Krakoan Age initiated by Jonathan Hickman in 2019. Writer Steve Foxe — who was simultaneously writing Dark X-Men — has described the book as editorially intensive: he, Kieron Gillen (Rise of the Powers of X), and senior editor Jordan D. White spent weeks coordinating timeline logic, real-world scheduling, and the placement of each character across the line-wide story to ensure the series had genuine consequences for the larger event. The unusually large rotating art team — Vincenzo Carratù, Bernard Chang, Jonas Scharf, Peter Nguyen, Guillermo Sanna, David Baldeon, Lynne Yoshii, and Javier Pina, all unified by colorist Frank Martin — was a deliberate creative decision tied to the series' story, with each distinct artist anchoring a separate spacetime setting or alternate reality.
