The first story features Hicks Graham, a honest rancher who becomes entangled with a crooked foreman deliberately ruining a property so his employer can buy the land cheaply; Graham eventually exposes the scheme and goes on to study law in Nevada. The second story, "Corny Corner," is a humorous tall tale in which a man named O'Brien claims to be a lifesaver and boasts of various exaggerated exploits, including training elephants to play billiards. A third story, "Chewing Bill," depicts a miner who tricks a con artist named Tabor out of a rich silver mine by convincing him the silver is worthless, then later reveals the mine was worth $500,000, though Tabor discovers the silver was actually nearby and not in the original location.
